Print Four Pages on a Single Sheet of Paper

To save paper and space as well, it makes sense to print on both sides of a sheet of paper. However, sometimes it makes even more sense to print two pages on both sides, in effect printing four pages on a single sheet of paper.

Most frequently, it’s a PDF file that needs to be printed.

Here is the way I do it.

First, select the pages that really need to be printed out and write them down.

Then, print another PDF file from the existing one. So, go Ctrl+P and select Print to File. In the Page Setup tab, select Pages per side: 2 and Orientation: Portrait. And in the Page Handling tab, select Fit to Printable Area and Auto Rotate and Center.

The names for these options may vary across software tools – in that case, just use common sense.

Now, let’s go to the newly output PDF file.

Next, print out all the odd pages – so in the Page Setup tab, select Only Print: Odd sheets.

Now, take out all sheets from the printer’s upper tray and put them back in the exact same position in the lower tray.

Finally, print out all the even pages but reversed! In the Page Setup tab, select Only Print: Even sheets. And in the General tab, tick Reverse.

Important note: make sure that you need the last odd page already printed. If the number of all pages is odd (for example 29), you don’t need it. In that case, take the top page away from the tray before printing the even pages.
